Michael H. Liao, Ph.D. is the Founder and Managing Partner of Greenwich Commodities LLC. His experience spans both academia and the industry, notably in the application of rigorous analytics to power trading. Before establishing Greenwich Commodities, he co-founded and served as the Chief Investment Officer at Clover Energy in Wilton, CT from 2015 to 2019. Between 2013 and 2015, he was with Cobalt Capital in Houston, TX, where he held the positions of Managing Director and Head of Power Trading. From 2009 to 2012, Dr. Liao functioned as a Director in Nodal Power Trading at Castleton Commodities International in Stamford, CT. His prior engagements include a role as a Senior Energy Analyst at Edison Mission Marketing & Trading from 2007 to 2009, and as a Power Engineer Intern at PJM Interconnection in 2006. Dr. Liao holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, specializing in algorithmic methods for large-scale power network analysis.


 

Jason Lei, Ph.D. is the Managing Partner of Greenwich Commodities LLC. Dr. Lei has worked in the electric power markets since 2004, focusing on system management and market trading. Prior to joining Greenwich Commodities, he was a managing partner of Clover Energy Funds in Wilton, CT from 2016 to 2020. In 2015, he was the fund manager of JL Energy, LP, and between 2012 to 2014 he was the fund manager of Newel Trading Group LLC. Previously, he was Director, FTR Trading (MISO) of Saracen Energy LLC in Houston, Texas from 2007 to 2012. Jason started his career as an Applications Engineer in the Department of Energy Management and Market System Development of Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) from 2004 to 2007. Jason Lei holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University at College Station, Texas, and Bachelor's and Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
