Energy Analyst

Location: Denver, CO or Troy, MI

Job Responsibilities:

A Senior Energy Analyst needs to understand the energy markets and build energy market fundamental based models to assist portfolio manager’s decision.  He/she participates in discussions with partners and managers regarding fundamental energy market modeling, recognizes market trends and is able to help develop new ways to model factors impacting market fundamentals.  He/she is expected to contribute to research and development projects that will end up as featured analysis in Greenwich Commodities’ In-house analytical platform for domestic energy markets.


Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate who can rapidly build and evolve our energy analysis platform and who possesses the following skills:

  • Relevant research experience, such as a PhD or Master Degree in Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Physics, Statistics, Machine Learning or a relevant quantitative field
  • 2-3 years experiences in managing and optimizing large sets of data
  • Ability to work with the team and make creative suggestions for evaluating the data
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of the power grid and power system analysis
  • Strong programming skills are a must
  • Driven by solving complex problems
  • Strong communication skills and a self-starter
  • Experience in the North American energy markets is preferred but not a must
  • Technical ability to manage large sets of data and ability to make sound decisions strictly based on the data

Quantitative Analyst

Location: Troy, MI


Greenwich Commodities LLC is an energy trading firm with offices located in both Metro Detroit and Metro Denver that focuses on trading in wholesale competitive electricity markets throughout the US. We are looking for a Quantitative Analyst (Full-Time) to work with our trading team in support of trading, pricing, and valuation analytical efforts for the energy trading business. The successful candidate will possess a strong quantitative, technical and data analytics background. This position will report to the head of the Trading team.

Position Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Retrieve, archive, manage and analyze voluminous data from electricity markets.
  • Build, maintain, research, execute and calibrate fundamental models (of supply and demand) for power & natural gas markets at regional and macro levels utilizing state-of-the-art demand forecasting and the latest infrastructure intelligence available.
  • Maintain pricing & risk quantification models and reports for power & natural gas products, power congestion contracts, load positions, and other derivatives, load, storage, options, and structured commodity transactions in a systematic analytical framework.
  • Leverage problem solving, analytical skills, quantitative expertise, programming, and data analysis to identify and to report new trading opportunities.
  • Work directly with a team of energy trading professionals.

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with very strong modeling, research, and quantitative skills
  • 2+ years of work experience in building models for energy market analysis with simulation tool, and/or
  • 2+ years of work experience in modeling, managing and analyzing large scale structured and unstructured data using Python/MS SQL/.Net
  • Strong academic experience in the field of electrical engineering, math, statistics, or economics can be substituted in lieu of work experience.
  • Self-starter and collaborative.
  • Effective working in a small and dynamic team environment.
  • Good communication skills.
